Rusty Hodge [SomaFM] 8 Sides Of The Same Coin is one of the more beautiful pieces I've heard in a long time. The only problem is it ends too fast.

This is a welcome escape from a lot of other ambient being made today, which has sadly become overly self-referential and somewhat boring. Jazz-style improvisations rendered in ambient soundscapes. Complex but not over-complicated. Favorite track: 8 Sides Of The Same Coin.

about

"Everything is Music", is pretty much a "pandemic album". I was a jazz pianist and indie rock keyboardist on the NYC scene, up to the spring of 2020 where everything came to a halt. During these strange times, all we heard all day and night, was the sounds of ambulance sirens. It was scary and stressful and I couldn't find the desire to listen to, or play, jazz any more - that music was too tense and frenetic...
Thankfully I've also been a long-time lover of ambient, and I found solace in listening to old favorites. This led to the recordings on "Everything is Music", featuring mostly piano, electric piano, electric bass, and guitars processed into oblivion. There are very few synthesizer parts on this recording, most of the sound comes from organic sources. The music is, I think, still very much infused in jazz, at least in the complex evolving harmonies. The opening track, "8 sides of the same coin", is a good example of the sound and feel I was aiming for.
